The Film Of The Year - Saajan

Impressive Show - Salman Khan, Sunjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit

Flop Show - Aamir Khan

Violence in films has become a virtual no-no for the masses. This became quite evident in 1991 because the mindless violence in the action-packed films like Yodha, Farishtay, Do Matwale, Akayla, Ajooba and Qurbaani Rang Layegi were outrightly rejected by the audience.

The three films which can be classified as super duper hit this year -  Saajan,Sanam Bewafa and Phool Aur Kaante-  all the super duper hits had the music of Nadeem-Shravan and have amply proved that masses would prefer Family Entertainers and Love Triangles.

The year 1991 proved to be a very successful year compared to the last year. Apart from the three super duper hit films, there were strings of hit films this year - Hum, Saudagar, Sadak ,Narsimha, Henna, Qurbaan ,100 Days, Izzat,Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Hafta Bandh, Aye Milan Ki Raat, Patthar Ke Phool,Prem Qaidi and Phool Bane Angaraay  all of which had doses of violence. Then there were average films - Fateh, Benaam Baadshah,Karz Chukana Hai, Love, Bhabhi, Visnu Deva,Saathi,Maa Saugandh,Kohraam,Pyar Ka Devta, Ramgarh Ke Sholay, Banjaran and Prahaar.

The new Heart-throb Salman Khan had five hits to his credits - Saajan,Sanam Bewafa, Baagi, Kurbaan and Patthar Ke Phool  as against one average, Love.

Though the year began on a bad note for Sunjay Dutt as his three films, Yodha,Do Matwaale and Qurbani Rang Layegi  were disasters at the box-office, he established himself with Super duper hit Saajan and Sadak and a average grosser Fateh.

Jackie Shroff  a hot property with Hafta Bandh, Izzat,100 Days and Saudagar (guest apperance) had a flop with Akayla.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan managed to sustain his image with Hum a box-office superhit. His other releases Ajooba,Akayla turned out to be a big flops.

Sunny Deol, who was considered last year a next no.1 gave two flops, Shankara and Yodha while he saved his skin with the hit film, Narsimha and an average grosser Visnu Deva.

Anil Kapoor is yet another star belonging to previous generation of stars whose three releases - Jigarwala,Pratikar, Lamhe were utter flops but Benaam Baadshah did an average business.

Though Sanjay Dutt three films, Yodha,Do Matwaale and Qurbaani Rang Layegi  were disasters at the box-office, he saved his skin with  Superhit like Saajan and hit Sadak.

Aamir Khan, an out and out romantic hero, who delivered 1 disaster, Afsana Pyar Ka has bounced back with Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin which remained an small hit film saved his skin.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, yet another action hero, managed to sustain his image with Hum becoming a hit. His other film Ajooba, Akayla were a big flop.

With two hits to her credit  - Saajan and 100 Days. Madhuri Dixit's career is at the peak  while Pyar Ka Devta did moderate business and Pratikar a disaster at box office.

Pooja Bhatt emerges the top heroine with Sadak and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin.

Juhi Chawla did not have a hit this year to her credit but her all  starrers, Karz Chukana Hain, Benaam Baadshah, Bhabhi did average business.
